Speaker Series brought to you
by the Social Service Care of Creation Team

Do you think of conservation as a part of your service to God and others? We do.  And we’d like to start some conversations about this concept at TLLC. We’ll be promoting Care of Creation, with a special emphasis on water, throughout the spring semester. Don’t miss these special speakers:

  • Visit the “How Much Water Do We Use” display in the Fellowship Hall. To participate, bring in your last water bill so that we can (anonymously!) calculate personal water usage for TLLC members and compare water usage with each other and people around the world.  Participants will be entered in a drawing for a prize at the Mardi Gras Pancake Breakfast on February 19.  Brought to you by the Social Service Care of Creation Team
  • Sunday, February 19 - Jim Spencer, KXAN Meteorologist will kick of our Care of Creation Speaker series at 9:30 in the sanctuary.
  • Sunday, February 26 - Laura Huffman, state director of The Nature Conservancy, will  speak in the sanctuary at 9:30 am on the state of water in Texas, how we impact it, and what steps we can take to be better stewards of it. Laura has spearheaded significant growth of The Nature Conservancy of Texas’ conservation work. She is one of the Conservancy's most trusted voices, speaking regularly on pressing environmental issues like energy and water. Laura earned her master’s in public affairs from the University of Texas and her bachelor’s from Texas A&M. She lives in Austin with her husband and four children.
  • Sunday, March 4, 9:30 am - Susan Meredith, local business owner and author will speak in the sanctuary at 9:30 am on Energy Efficiency: The Myths and the Magic. Susan is co-owner of Go Green Squads, a local provider of energy efficiency audits, upgrades, and education and the author of Beyond Light Bulbs: Lighting the Way to Smarter Energy Management.  In this informative session, she will speak about:  How to Prioritize Energy Efficiency Measures in Your Home; the Cost/Benefit Analysis of Energy Efficiency Upgrades; and How Efficiency Upgrades Fit into the Bigger Picture.
